Gid man var syd på...Rapport fra Panama

"Hi Jan

GREETINGS FROM THE TROPICS

AFTER ALL THE WIND LAST WEEK WE WERE HAPPY TO WELCOME BACK CALM SEES AND HUNGRY FISH. LONG TIME FRIEND AND ANGELR ,JOHN MESSINA, WAS JOINED BY 8 ANGLERS FROM THE NORTHEAST; PHIL VITILLO, BUD McCARTHUR, SCOTT CROKER, KENT McMILLION, MATT ADAMO, MARK ROY, ED PERRY, JASON SCHARZBERG AND DAVID PINCUS. ALSO JOINING JOHN FROM WEST VIRGINIA WAS RICHARD WILBUR AND BRIAN WEST. IT WAS NICE TO SEE SOME OLD TIME FRIENDS ALONG WITH A FEW NEW FACES.

THE TRIP GOT STARTED OF QUICKLY WHEN JUST OFFSHORE FROM LADRONES THE CREW ENCOUNTERED FLOCKS OF BIRDS, PORPOISE, AND TUNA FEEDING ON HUGE SCHOOLS OF SARDINES. THERE WAS SOME NICE CATCHES CAPPED OF WITH A 90 LB FISH ON TOPWATER BY MARK ROY AND PHIL BITELLO'S FIRST EVER PACIFIC SAILFISH. BY DAY TWO THE CREW WAS RESTED AND FILLED WITH ANTICIPATION ABOUT WHAT LAY OFFSHORE. DAVE PINCUS WAS NOT TO BE DISAPPOINTED HOOKING INTO A 400 LB BLACK MARLIN WHILE TROLLING PLASTICS OFF OF MONTUOSA ISLAND. WITH THE ARRIVAL OF CALM SEAS ALSO CAME THE ARRIVAL OF SAILFISH. AFTER SEEING VERY FEW SAILFISH THE FIRST FEW WEEKS OF THE SEASON EVERY BOAT WAS GETTING A COUPLE OF SHOTS A DAY WHILE OFFSHORE. COUPLED WITH ALL THE DORADO AND TUNA AROUND THIS IS MAKING FOR GREAT DAYS OF BLUE WATER FISHING. WHEN THE GUYS MOVED INSHORE THEY ALSO FOUND GREAT BOTTOM FISHING. THE MULLET SNAPPER WERE ON THE BITE AS WELL AS CUBERA SNAPPER UP TO 60 LBS.

ON DAY FOUR RICHARD AND BRIAN WERE HEADED TO MONTUOSA WHEN THEY ENCOUNTERED A SMALL SCHOOL OF PORPOISE. WITHIN TEN SECONDS OF DROPPING A BLUE RUNNER IN THE WATER THEY HAD A 130 LB YELLOFIN TUNA PINNED UP. AFTER FIGHTING THE FISH ON 50 LB TEST FOR CLOSE TO AN HOUR THEY DECIDED IT WAS TIME TO HEAD INSHORE FOR A LITTLE ACTION ON THE BEACH. THEY WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED LANDING 4 ROOSTERFISH UP TO 50 LBS TO CAP OFF A WONDERFUL DAY. WHILE ALL OF THIS WAS GOING ON CAPTAIN LUCHO HAD WORLD TRAVELER CAPTAIN BUD McCARTHUR HOOKED INTO A 450 LB CLASS BLACK MARLIN OFF MONTOUSA ISLAND. AFTER AN HOUR LONG BATTLE THEY WERE ABLE TO GET A CLEAN RELEASE ON THE FISH. CONGRATULATIONS BUD ON A FINE CATCH!

UP UNTIL DAY FIVE MARK ROY AND MATT ADAMO HAD SPENT MOST OF THEIR TIME FISHING INSHORE CASTING POPPERS AND LIVE BAITING FOR CUBERAS. THEY DECIDED THIS WAS THEIR DAY TO HEAD OFFSHORE AND TANGLE WITH SOME BIG FISH. AFTER LANDING 2 SAILFISH AND 4 DORADO MATT HOOKED INTO A 400 LB CLASS BLACK MARLIN. ALL OF THIS BEFORE 10:30 IN THE MORNING. AFTER TWO HOURS MATT WAS ABLE TO BRING THE FISH BOAT SIDE. CALLING IT A DAY THEY HEADED BACK TO THE BARGE TO MAKE COCKTAIL HOUR AND CELEBRATE ANOTHER GREAT WEEK AT PESCA PANAMA.

THANKS AGAIN TO ALL THE GUYS THAT WERE ABLE TO PULL AWAY FROM THE FRIGID WEATHER IN THE NORTHEAST AND ENJOY A LITTLE SUN WITH US DOWN IN PANAMA.

TIGHT LINES,
CAPTAIN JAY GUSTIN
CAPTAIN BEN FLOYD"
